Hi everyone! I am Irshad Haqyar. Today, I want to talk about a topic that many parents and students ask me about: Should students use laptops before they reach Class 10?
In today's digital world, "Digital Skills" are as important as reading and writing. But when it comes to younger students, we need to find a balance. Based on my experience and observations, here is how a laptop can change a student's life—if used correctly.
1. Building a Foundation for the Future
I personally believe that waiting until Class 10 to touch a laptop is a mistake. By that age, many students around the world are already coding or designing. If a student starts early, they learn basic computer literacy—like how to use Word, Excel, and how to research on Google. These are the skills that will help them throughout their lives.
2. Learning Beyond School Books
School books are great, but they have limits. When I look at the internet, I see a sea of knowledge. A student in Class 7 or 8 can use a laptop to watch 3D science experiments or learn a new language. This "Visual Learning" makes their brain sharper than just reading plain text.
3. The Risk: Screen Time and Distractions
Of course, it’s not all good. The biggest danger I see is distraction. Social media and gaming can easily divert a young mind. This is why I suggest that parents should monitor what their children are doing. A laptop should be kept in a common room, not behind closed doors.
4. My Recommendation for Students
If you are a student below Class 10, here is my 3-step formula for you:
- Limit your time: Use the laptop for 1-2 hours max for learning.
- Pick a Skill: Don't just browse. Learn typing, basic graphic design (like Canva), or even simple coding.
- Stay Safe: Never share personal information online.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, a laptop is a powerhouse of digital skills. As Irshad Haqyar, I support the use of technology for young students, but only with a purpose. Let's use these machines to become creators, not just consumers.
